Want to succeed in your home business? Try rubbing lemon juice on your face!

The following is a true story:
“In 1995, McArthur Wheeler walked into two Pittsburgh banks and robbed them in broad daylight, with no visible attempt at disguise. He was arrested later that night after videotapes of him taken from surveillance cameras were broadcast on the 11 o’clock news. When police later showed him the tapes, Mr Wheeler stared in incredulity. ‘But I wore the juice,’ he mumbled. Apparently, Wheeler was under the impression that rubbing one’s face with lemon juice rendered it invisible to videotape cameras.”
This story illustrates a very common problem:
The less we know about something, the more we over-estimate our abilities in that area.
Unfortunately for Mr. Wheeler, he didn’t know enough to know he didn’t know enough to rob a bank.
This tendency has been scientifically demonstrated numerous times; and, it turns out, people in the top 10% for a particular skill are the only ones who don’t over-estimate their ability in that area.
This is one of the reasons people on your team continue to struggle without asking for help. It just never occurs to them that they are personally deficient in a skill. They just assume it “doesn’t work.”
So, how do you get out of this Catch-22? As has been documented through numerous studies, you have to have someone evaluate your skills … someone who actually has the skills you are looking for and who can do it in a non-biased way.
For someone building a home business, I know of only one place they can get that type of coaching for free. (That is, if they’re not already getting that support from their sponsor!)
If you would like help with any particular skill for building your business, I invite you to contact our network of coaches who can help you on your path to success.
Most people who do so are glad they did.

Great post Walter. I can't image someone putting lemon juice on their face and thinking it would make a difference. But we all do crazy things, convinced they WILL give us that edge. Thanks for the reminder about mentors!
I have read that even the greats had a mentor.
So it is best that little old me follow their lead.
Thanks for the reminder.
Walter,
What a great post! I love the analogy, such a funny story! And the title really grabs the attention too - I loved it!
Keep being a great mentor!
Vicki
Hi Walter
Yep make sens. So i am off washing my face and call my mentor. Thanks for the reminder. In French we have a say that goes like this " knowledge is like jam the less we have to more we spread it"
All the best to you and your family.
Bernard
